Contemporary Portrait of Guru Gobind Singh (late 17th century)
A rare Sikh miniature painting preserved by the Bhai Rupa family, who claim descent from Bhai Rupa. The Bhai Rupa Collection maintains that this work is a commissioned portrait of the young Guru Gobind Rai. At this age, the Guru was already a prolific writer, completing over 2,500 verses of the Krishnavatar by the age of 23 (Jvala Singh, Sikh historian, Warrior Saints, p.15).
This painting was later published in Pakhyaan Charitter: Instructions With Regards to Deceptive Characters (vol. I, 16 September 2024) by Nidar Singh (author) and Teja Singh (ed.).
