The costume, arms, jewellery, turban, and overall visual character draw upon the surviving nineteenth-century portrait tradition associated with Sikh court and military figures, allowing the painting to evoke the appearance of Nalwa within the artistic language of his own time.

Rather than reproducing a single historical portrait, the work brings together period visual references to create an original portrait of Hari Singh Nalwa. Particular attention is given to his martial bearing and commanding presence, reflecting the reputation he established as one of the Sikh Empire's foremost generals and frontier commanders.

Hari Singh Nalwa became closely associated with the defence of the empire's north-western territories. His campaigns and administration along the frontier made him a central figure in the history of Sikh Raaj and Khalsa Raj, and his legacy remains deeply embedded in the historical memory of Punjab.

The painting forms part of the Prometheus Originals collection, an ongoing body of original works by Arshdeep Singh exploring Sikh history through contemporary painting while drawing upon historical artworks, archival material, and the visual traditions of Punjab.

This work is not presented as a historical portrait or restoration, but as an original contemporary painting informed by the visual evidence of Hari Singh Nalwa's era.

https://theprometheusmythos.com/products/hari-singh-nalwa-man-of-steel-prometheus-original-punjabi-heritage-art
